Ensuring Water Security for Livestock Farmers in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District

Recognizing this, the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, together with the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, has implemented vital water infrastructure projects to support communal farmers in Kagisano-Molopo and Greater Taung. In May 2025, new boreholes, submersible pumps, windmills, and a 60,000-litre zinc reservoir were installed in villages including Langpomp, Setabeng, Maheng, and Manthe. These upgrades are providing consistent water supply to communal livestock farmers, helping to safeguard their animals and strengthen rural economies. This intervention is more than infrastructure — it is a lifeline for families who rely on livestock as a source of income, food security, and cultural heritage. “Farmers are a priority. Without water, there is no farming, and without farming, there is no rural economy,” said MEC Madoda Sambatha. The municipality remains committed to expanding and maintaining these water projects, ensuring rural communities thrive now and in the future.
