Mpumalanga to mark International Nelson Mandela day across all 17 Municipalities on Friday

Show Voice Options It is all systems go as Mpumalanga is preparing to mark the Nelson Mandela Day on Friday. A broad range of activities have been earmarked to commemorate the Mandela Day, as the global community marks this day on the late Statement’s birthday, the 18th of July. The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu has directed that the activities to mark the Mandela Day, be held in all the 17 Local Municipalities, in various wards. He further called on communities to participate in the activities in pursuit of solutions for challenges faced by the underprivileged in the society. The theme for the Mandela Day this year is: “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequality”. The theme calls for renewed global efforts to address enduring socio-economic challenges and urges every individual to play a role in building a more just and equitable society. On Friday, Premier Ndlovu, accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Msukaligwa Local Municipality, Cllr. Mapule Nkosi and Councillors, will dedicate 67 minutes of service by repairing damaged road in designated streets. As part of the activities, Members of the Executive, Executive Mayors, Speakers, Councillors and leaders of society will also dedicate time towards painting of buildings, fixing water and sanitation infrastructure, feeding people who are vulnerable in the society, and addressing their needs. Premier Ndlovu says through these collective efforts the Mpumalanga Government reaffirms its commitment to humanitarian service and to advance the values of justice, dignity and compassion which Mandela stood for.
