Show Voice Options South African manufacturers are gaining access to new export opportunities as government strengthens trade agreements, investment support, and market access programmes aimed at expanding the country's industrial footprint globally. The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has intensified support through its Export Support Desk and Trade Opportunities Centre, helping export-ready businesses connect with international buyers and access weekly trade lead bulletins from global markets. Recent progress includes stronger trade engagement with China through a new economic partnership framework and improved agricultural export access, including expanded citrus export opportunities, while the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) continues opening regional markets for locally produced goods across the continent. Trade and Industry Minister Parks Tau has also emphasized that industrial growth must be driven by decarbonisation, diversification, and digitalisation, with sectors such as agro-processing, green energy, automotive manufacturing, and mineral beneficiation positioned for strong export growth. Government says these measures are designed to help manufacturers reduce dependence on local demand alone, attract new investment, create jobs, and build stronger global competitiveness as South Africa works to expand its presence in international supply chains and long-term industrial development.
