SALGA Meets Minister of Electricity and Energy

Show Voice Options On Thursday, July 18, 2024, the SALGA Presidency, led by Cllr Bheke Stofile, met with the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hon. Dr. Kgosientso Ramokgopa, in Cape Town ahead of the Opening of Parliament Address. This marks the first meeting between SALGA and the new Minister in his role within the 7th Administration. The discussions covered several critical topics, including: Electricity Distribution Industry reforms The energy crisis The Just Energy Transition and the introduction of the energy market Outstanding municipal debts Eskom debt The meeting resolved to establish a functional structure to address the energy issues affecting local governments, based on the understanding that political issues require political solutions. It was agreed that COGTA, National Treasury, and Eskom would be included in the ongoing conversations to address the structural and systemic challenges that have led to the ballooning debts. #InspiringServiceDelivery #DPME
